A versatile medical laser system used to target pigmented lesions such as sun spots, age spots, freckles, pigmentation and some birthmarks. It targets melanin occurring superficially in the skin by emitting high-intensity light in extremely short pulses. This allows for precise targeting of specific skin concerns, making it an effective treatment for a range of skin conditions.
Your Experience
Anaesthetic cream may be applied to the area prior to the procedure to minimize discomfort if requested. As the laser pulses are delivered, the patient will typically feel a series of quick, snapping sensations on the skin. These pulses can sometimes be described as feeling like a rubber band snapping against the skin.
How It Works
The laser energy is selectively absorbed by certain target tissues, which can include pigmented cells such as tattoo ink or melanin responsible for pigmented lesions. The energy absorbed by the target tissues creates a sudden temperature increase (photothermal effect) or mechanical stress (photomechanical effect) within these tissues. This rapid energy delivery leads to the fragmentation or breakdown of the target while minimizing damage to surrounding skin. The controlled damage triggers the body's natural healing responses.
Results
After the treatment the area will feel similar to light sunburn. Typically any discomfort experienced will disappear in one to two days. Skin may be slightly pink immediately following treatments, this should fade after 24 hours. Some swelling and redness around the area is common. It is also normal to feel itchy after treatment.
